005An online marketing professional shared advice with students on the importance of work experience and getting transferable skills to kick off their careers.

Carly Humphries, marketing executive at Kerching.com, joined LBS students across all years and courses for a guest lecture on marketing and online gaming. Carly charted her journey from undergraduate student to her current role sharing insightful tips for climbing up the marketing ladder.

She said: “The first job never defines your whole career and as long as you have transferable skills, the right attitude and eagerness to learn, there are a lot of areas you can move into. Frankly, this is exactly what I’ve done.”

Carly added: “When it comes to online marketing, idea generation and problem solving ‘hats’ are important to be worn by marketing professionals as them two usually helps to tackle problems and move the business forward.”

Carly’s successful presentation has sparked students’ interest and prompted questions about her previous work experiences and day-to-day tasks of her current role.

The guest lecture was a part of Introduction to Personal, Professional Practise module which aims to develop students’ personal and professional practice enabling them to become more effective and confident in their programme of study and within future employment.

Adrian Wright commented: “It was great for Carly to come to UCLan to present to our students. It was really interesting to hear about Carly’s role in an exciting sector and finally, I’d like to thank Carly for coming to UCLan and helping us to reinforce the UCLan Advantage.”
